A Celebration of the South with Jonathan Rogers
Celebrating the launch of his first cookbook SOUTH, Head Chef Jonathan Rogers is set to host a fabulous weekend at Matakauri Lodge, taking guests on a gastronomic journey and sharing the story of Queenstown, its surrounds and the region he calls home.
This wodnerful foodie weekend will be a showcase of seasonality, and an interactive love letter to Queenstown and its extraordinary producers and suppliers; proving that Queenstown is not just the adventure sports capital of the world, but also an adventure for the palate.
Matakauri Lodge, with its amazing position on the edge of Lake Wakatipu and stunning views of the Remarkables Mountain range and Cecil and Walter Peaks, will provide the perfect backdrop for a foodie weekend.
Guests who sign up for a two-night stay, arriving on Friday night, will be treated to an artful cooking demonstration with Jonathan on the Saturday morning. Be enthralled as Jonathan showcases recipes from the new book and demonstrates step by step how he creates some of the lodge’s favourite dishes with the best of local, seasonal ingredients. Matakauri Lodge pastry chef Justin Craig will join him in showcasing fabulous desserts using the region’s berries and wild produce.
Guests arriving on Saturday night will settle in for an afternoon in their luxurious suites before the grand finale dinner that night - a seven course seasonal and local tasting menu, matched to the premium Burn Cottage wines.
Burn Cottage Vineyard is located at the foothills of the Pisa range in Central Otago. Burn Cottage believe in minimal intervention winemaking, to discover the genius of the site and the individual vineyard blocks within, allowing the wines to reveal it.
Seasonality is fundamental to Jonathan's Matakauri Lodge menus, which change every day. “It’s an incredibly rewarding way of cooking,” said Jonathan. He added, “what I cook is dictated by my local community – the farmers, the growers and purveyors who supply the lodge, and this is what both my new book and this wonderful weekend will showcase”.
Central Otago has always had a strong pull on Burn Cottage winemaker Claire Mulholland.
"After growing up on a farm in Central Otago I have always been drawn back - to this landscape, the energy, and the people here. It is a privilege to be working with the unique site of Burn Cottage Vineyard where the emphasis is on treating this land with respect, and striving for wines which express their provenance, now and for the future. The attention to detail in the vineyard and care in the winery allow the wines to be a window into this special place, and we look forward to sharing this with the amazing dishes this weekend."
In addition, a signed copy of SOUTH will be gifted to each suite.
EVENT RATE INCLUSIONS
Event tariff for two nights is NZ$1,850 + GST per person, based on double occupancy and includes:
- Two night’s accommodation at Matakauri Lodge
- Pre-dinner drinks and canapes, full daily breakfast, lunch and complimentary non-alcoholic mini-bar
- Cooking demonstration with Head Chef Jonathon Rogers and Pastry Chef Justin Craig
- A la carte dinner on Friday evening
