Easter at Matakauri Lodge
Easter brings the changing of the seasons in New Zealand. Gorgeous golden and red hues dominate the hills the Queenstown region is famous for and contrast strikingly with the deep blue of Lake Wakatipu.
At Matakauri Lodge, the smell of baking hot cross buns fills the air and the lodge is tastefully decorated as the Easter Bunny’s visit is patiently anticipated. Good Friday and Easter Sunday meals are celebrated with a special five-course tasting menu, championing Central Otago produce, created by Head Chef Jonathan Rogers.
On Sunday morning our young guests are invited to discover what the Easter Bunny has left behind in the ‘Ultimate Easter Egg Hunt’, with miniature eggs hidden around the lodge and in the garden.
Traditionally, Easter boasts some of the best weather of the year, with crisp, sunny days and cool, clear evenings. Autumn’s arrival in a blaze of reds and golds turns Queenstown into one of the best autumn displays in New Zealand, attracting visitors, artists and photographers from around the world.
