- Kauri Cliffs
After the inaugural sell-out event, Celebrate Art! returns for the ultimate art weekend in 2018.
Celebrate Art will give guests an exclusive tour of the privately-owned and rarely-accessible Gibbs Farm sculpture park, stockroom tours of leading Auckland galleries Gow Langsford and Two Rooms, and the opportunity to listen and learn from two of the southern hemisphere art world’s foremost scholars.
The chance to view the Gibbs Farm sculptures, set against the stunning backdrop of the Kaipara Harbour is a highly sought-after experience and one that a privileged few can enjoy. Combine this with three days of indulging in food, Greystone wines, spa and golf in the idyllic surrounds of The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs, and you have a weekend never to be forgotten.
Guest speakers Sue Gardiner and Mary Kisler are engaging and learned, so attendees can expect to be brought up to the minute by their takes on what’s important, what’s happening now and what they need to know in today’s fast moving art world.
Mary Kisler, Senior Curator of International Art at the Auckland Art Gallery, will share her thoughts on New Zealand art within an international context. Mary earned a Master’s Degree in Art History and Italian at University of Auckland and also is Senior Curator of the Mackelvie Collection. A curator at the Auckland Art Gallery since 1998, Mary has her finger firmly on the pulse of the global art scene, from Europe to Australia/New Zealand and beyond.
Sue Gardiner is the Co-Director of the Chartwell Collection, a public collection of contemporary art on long term loan to Auckland Art Gallery, Toi o Tamaki, with a focus on exploring the visual creative thinking of artists from this region. Sue will explore Chartwell’s belief in the notion that art changes people and people change the world.
The Saturday night dinner will be another special highlight- a five course tasting menu by Kauri Cliffs and Relais & Chateaux Executive Chef Barry Frith, with matched wines by North Canterbury, NZ ’s Greystone Wines.
Planted by the Thomas family in 2004, Greystone’s 40-hectare organic vineyard is perched on the unique limestone hills of the Waipara Valley, North Canturbury. While Pinot Noir makes up over half of their vineyard, Greystone also grows and makes exceptional Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Savignon Blanc and Syrah. In 2016, Greystone was named Vineyard of the Year in the New Zealand Organic Wine Awards (NZOWA), while Greystone’s winemaker Dom Maxwell was recently named Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine’s 2018 NZ Winemaker of the Year.
From Gibbs Farm and the Auckland commercial gallery scene, to inspiring speakers, great food, Greystone Wines, and leisure fun at Kauri Cliffs – this is truly a weekend that is not to be missed.
The inaugural Kauri Cliffs Celebrate Art weekend sold out quickly, so don’t delay if you are interested in being part of it in 2018.
