The Farm at Cape Kidnappers is delighted to announce a very special weekend celebrating “Real Food” and its growers with SBS TV’s Gourmet Farmer, Matthew Evans.

Passionate food ethicist, Matthew is a chef, farmer, author and staunch believer in Real Food. He is passionate about food provenance and producer values. He believes in home cooking and using the seasons and geography as the guide.

Cape Kidnappers shares this philosophy and the farm setting in Hawke’s Bay draws parallels to Matthew’s Tasmanian own Fat Pig Farm, with its dedicated growing programme and farm-to-plate cooking ethos. 

This harmony between worlds will be most felt during the showcase dinner on Saturday night, featuring a degustation menu from Matthew and the Cape Kidnappers kitchen team, with exquisite wine pairings from Hawke’s Bay’s own Smith & Sheth Vineyards.

Steve Smith MW has a formidable reputation in the wine industry: renowned for establishing Craggy Range in Hawke’s Bay and Martinborough, he is also one of few qualified Master of Wines to be based in New Zealand.

Join Matthew to explore Cape Kidnappers extensive vegetable gardens and farming operations at a special time of the year as Spring approaches, with lambing finishing and calving underway. Later, Matthew will host an interactive workshop that he calls “loving the unloved” – showcasing how to get the most from your vegetables, from chard stems to turnip tops and using what many discard.
