The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs is delighted to named as one of the Top 20 Hideaways in the World according to Andrew Harper
Andrew Harper inspires transformative high-end travel through honest, independent reviews of the world’s top 1,000 hideaways and hotels. All of Andrew Harper’s recommended properties possess exceptional character, a commitment to classic hospitality and a profound sense of place.
The Top 20 Hideaways reflects those hotels with fewer than 50 rooms and exceptionally high ratings in The Andrew Harper Collection. In making his final adjudication, Andrew Harper’s editor-in-chief says he was also “conscious of those hideaways that have long been the established favorites of Andrew Harper members.”
Kauri Cliffs is described as having “sensational views of the sea and fairways” from “gloriously scenic verandas”.
“It’s a passion project,” says the publication. “The property’s billionaire owner, American hedge fund manager Julian Robertson, fell in love with New Zealand at a young age and now owns two other exceptional lodges: The Farm at Cape Kidnappers in Hawke’s Bay and Matakauri Lodge near Queenstown.
“A casually elegant lodge encompasses a glass-enclosed formal dining room that serves delicious Pacific Rim cuisine. The golf course features six dramatic cliffside holes, plus nine others with ocean views.”
Andrew Harper’s team of editors evaluate all properties using decades of travel experience, well beyond a checklist, to distinguish the truly enchanting from the merely excellent. In 2016, Andrew Harper editors flew more than 146,000 miles and visited 15 countries. Last year alone, editors added 59 new hotels and removed 69 from Andrew Harper’s ever-evolving list of recommended properties.
