An update on re-opening

Posted on August 10, 2020

While our borders remain closed to all but New Zealand citizens and residents for the foreseeable future, Matakauri Lodge, Queenstown, with its heavy reliance on international guests, will remain closed for the remainder for 2020.

We will review re-opening dates for Matakauri Lodge in January 2021, when we hope there will be more positive news on the fight against the global COVID-19 pandemic, and when safe border measures will allow us to welcome back, both local and international guests.

The Farm at Cape Kidnappers safely re-opened to New Zealand guests in August, not long after it was voted, for the second consecutive year, as the Number One Resort Hotel in Australia & New Zealand, by Travel + Leisure readers in their highly regarded World’s Best Awards, 2020.

More positive news is on the horizon, with the re-opening of The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs, Northland, on October 1, 2020. By way of celebration, we are planning an exciting “Summer Event Series” – with a range of dynamic and inspirational special interest weekends. These events will be showcased across both of our North Island lodges for the first time ever, during the summer season. Think chilled, summer wines on Pink Beach at Kauri Cliffs, Gin Masterclasses at Cape Kidnappers, and small events with some of New Zealand’s favourite personalities, to mention but a few. Exciting, upcoming plans for these events will be announced soon.

We are also absolutely thrilled that so many New Zealand guests will be staying with us for the first time this year, while enjoying the warm hospitality experience offered by Kauri Cliffs and Cape Kidnappers.

At this time, Robertson Lodges Chief Executive, Jay Robertson, would like to express his continued gratitude to the loyal friends, past guests and dedicated staff who have shown unwavering support, during what can only be described as challenging times.

“Our family remains 100% committed to our three properties in New Zealand, to our wonderful staff who work tirelessly to deliver a world-class service, and to our guests who have always looked to Robertson Lodges as a safe, peaceful haven. As we work together to look after each other, and to combat this pandemic, we are looking forward to welcoming our New Zealand guests.

We would also like to extend this sincere message to our many friends and guests further afield; please know that we will be here for you when international travel resumes, and we do look forward to providing a safe destination and a happy, memorable experience for you, your family and your friends.”

The Robertson Lodges Reservations team is in the process of contacting all guests with bookings in place who will be affected by this extended pause in business at Matakauri Lodge. However, if you have any queries about upcoming bookings or potential cancellations and postponements, please contact our Reservations at [email protected] or telephone + 64 9 407 0065.
